Approval refers to the compliance of a specific construction of a vehicle or simply a component not related to a specific vehicle, with the administrative provisions and technical requirements set forth by community regulatory acts (EC Directives and/or EU Regulations and/or specific UN-ECE Regulations).
This is a specific procedure for a particular construction of a vehicle, for a device, system, or component intended to be installed on vehicles. It can be issued by countries belonging to the European Union. Each designated authority assigns its technical services to conduct tests on the device or system. The test report produced following the completion of the checks allows the authority to issue the approval certificate after the necessary checks on the regulatory standard.
The verification activity consists of conducting laboratory tests according to an appropriate technical standard for structural and dimensional checks, as well as documentary checks of informational documentation and any previous or partial certification.
The manufacturer of the system, following the obtaining of the approval certificate, applies a marking. Approval requests related to the procedure described above are directed to the designated Office of Technical Services of the involved country. In this procedure, the certificate will be used during the vehicle approval phase to allow its installation.
